Grades 5 & 6 Music
Clearspring Middle School - Steinbach, MB
During my spring 2021 placement, I had the pleasure of working with Mrs. Hutchinson's Grade 5 and 6 general music classes! Using the "Universal Design for Learning" philosophy, I composed music for them where each line offered a different difficulty level, allowing students to "choose their own adventure!"
Grade 10-12 Band
Fort Richmond Collegiate - Winnipeg, MB
Pre-concert trailers offer a fun "sneak peek" for upcoming band concerts! They can be easily accessed through my e-newsletters that I plan on sending to parents/guardians each month to showcase student growth and achievement.
Composition
Chorale for Senior Concert Band
A great castle rises in the distance like a beacon... "The Castle Gates" is a chorale written for senior concert band as an exercise in phrasing, composite rhythms and melodies, rich tone, and the power of storytelling. The goal of the chorale is to perform it from memory, telling the audience the story of the great castle while dispersed around the concert venue.
To encourage musical expression, I would ask students what visions come to mind as they play their parts. What is happening around the castle? Is it a lively keep, with a bustling marketplace? Or crumbling ruins, hosting a sleeping dragon...

Conducting in Action!
Gustav Holst - "First Suite in Eā
As the final step in the Advanced Conducting course at Brandon University, I had the amazing opportunity to conduct the music school's symphonic band in the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium.

Growing up, I attended many musicals, concerts, and Westman Honour Band clinics at the WMCA. Having the chance to be the leader on that big stage was an unforgettable experience.

During my years spent in BU's conducting classes, I have developed skills in the areas of score study, score mapping, and the implementation of effective rehearsal techniques.
